Comparing the regional T-SPLOST projects to present-day

We would like to reflect back on the regional T-SPLOST proposal from 2012 and the projects included in Henry County. This is not done in an effort to persuade voters that it should have passed, but rather to illustrate that the county’s priorities six years ago remain priorities now.

In many ways, we are in a better position today than if the region vote had passed. This is thanks to the transportation funding act of 2015 and the state’s increased budget to fund major projects. Georgia DOT has begun preliminary work on several projects, to include widening US 23 / SR 42 and constructing the Western Parallel Connector.

The most noticeable funding shortage is widening SR 155 south of I-75 and Bill Gardner Parkway. Increased industrial development in this area has created a constant traffic jam, with little help in the foreseeable future. We encourage Henry County and Georgia DOT to expedite these projects as quickly as possible. We would like to see a special tax district implemented over the industrial district to help fund the planned major transportation projects in the area.

Please see the table below for a complete breakdown of the regional T-SPLOST projects and their present-day status. Unless otherwise stated, all projects are to four-lane the corridor from an existing two-lane road.
