Henry County passed a Kelleytown moratorium. Plus, McDonough opted to stay in HB 581.
Today in Henry February 28, 2025
Happy Friday! Today is also the last day of the month.
The McDonough council voted last night to stay in House Bill 581. This creates a homestead exemption within the city. Homeowners will need to apply by April 1 to receive it; I will share that application as soon as it is available. The other cities are likewise accepting homestead exemption applications.
A few more quick updates before today's news:
House Bill 344, to lower the fine for passing a stopped school bus, has been reassigned from the House Motor Vehicles Committee to the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee. That committee next meets on Monday afternoon; the bill is not on their current meeting agenda.
Henry County has indicated they plan to appeal the recent impact fees ruling, as reported by the Henry Herald. Some social media discussions have suggested the county must repay $147 million; the actual amount is $14-15 million. I believe it is important to clarify that amount. The county's appeal will have to work through the court system, so it could be a while before there's another update on this topic.
