Henry County is searching for an architect for the next phase of improvements at Nash Farm Park. The new corporate event / wedding pavilion finished earlier this year.

The county has a request for qualifications (RFQ) open until May 24. The selected firm will design renovations to the black box theater as well as a new greenhouse.

Next Phase at Nash Farm Park

The SPLOST V program set aside $3.3 million for improvements at Nash Farm Park. The new corporate event / wedding pavilion was the first phase. The county approved construction for the venue in May 2022. The new structure cost $1.2 million after design and build costs. The county also paid for a new sprinkler system in the activity barn.

As of December 2022, about $2 million dollars remains available for other projects. The next phase at Nash Farm Park will include a greenhouse and further renovations to the black box theater. The activity barn, now known as the theater, are one in the same.

Because the county is using a Request for Qualifications (RFQ), this means county staff will review each firm which applies for the contract. This is different than construction bids when the lowest bidder receives the work. It typically takes the county a few months to review the materials. Staff will then recommend a design contract for the board to consider approving it. Board approval could happen in late summer.

The county previously advertised a design-build contract for the greenhouse in September 2022, and again in November. Both bids closed without an award.
