Henry County is presently accepting construction bids for a new roundabout in McDonough. It will be at Henry Parkway and Henry Parkway Connector. The roundabout is also the first project to start construction through SPLOST VI.
Henry Parkway at Henry Parkway Connector Roundabout
Henry Parkway at Henry Parkway Connector is located in southwest McDonough. It is near Mercer’s McDonough campus as well as the county offices. The new aquatic center is also under construction in the immediate vicinity. It is set to open in summer 2026. Lastly, the southwest segment of McDonough Parkway ties into the intersection. That road section is complete awaiting the Georgia 20 widening project before it opens. It should open within the next year after Georgia DOT contractors finish a new roundabout at Georgia 20 and McDonough Parkway. All of these factors contribute to the need to improve Henry Parkway at Henry Parkway Connector.

Henry County is soliciting construction bids through May 7, 2025, for the project. The project design calls for a two-lane roundabout. It supports four travel lanes carrying Henry Parkway Connector. Motorists coming off Henry Parkway will be able to turn left towards Georgia 20 or right towards Georgia 155.
The board of commissioners should consider awarding a construction bid this summer. The contractor will have 300 days from the notice to proceed to complete the project.
SPLOST VI sales tax collections started on April 1. They continue through March 2031. Henry County allocated $2.5 million from the program to improve Henry Parkway at Henry Pkwy Conn. The city of McDonough is expected to contribute another $2.5 million. The location is a joint project between the county and city.
3 Roundabouts
In the future, there could be three roundabouts on Henry Parkway Connector. This includes the aforementioned roundabouts at Georgia 20 and Henry Parkway. Finally, Georgia DOT plans to construct a roundabout at Georgia 155 and Henry Pkwy Connector. The third roundabout will be part of the GA 155 widening project. The state DOT estimates construction will start in 2027.
