The McDonough council has approved a plan to add electric vehicle chargers throughout the city. The chargers are being paid for by Georgia Power.

The program will install chargers at five locations. A second Tesla supercharger is also forthcoming in McDonough.

McDonough Electric Vehicle Chargers

The Make Ready Infrastructure Program by Georgia Power is paying for charger installations. Georgia Power will also own and maintain the equipment. McDonough nominated several city-owned locations to be part of the program. They include the following:

  • Richard Craig Park,
  • Public Works Building, 305 Racetrack Road,
  • City Parking Lot, 41 Hampton Street,
  • Avalon Park, and
  • City Police Department, 50 Lawrenceville Street.

There will be three chargers at each site. They can charge six vehicles at a time.

In addition, the city is planning to electrify part of its fleet. In December, the council approved buying an electric vehicle for the police department. They also plan to purchase electric pick-ups for the public works department, according to City Administrator Steve Morgan.

Tesla Superchargers

Presently, Tesla has a supercharger at the South Point shopping center. It is near JCPenney and Academy. It is the only supercharger in Henry County. A second supercharger is coming soon at Henry Town Center on Jonesboro Road, according to the Tesla website.
