Henry County residents have several meetings they can attend the week of January 6, 2025. Here is a look at upcoming meetings within the county.

At a glance, there’s a town hall meeting on Monday night. It is to discuss further two proposed data centers. There is also the zoning board meeting on Thursday, January 9. Their agenda includes The Grove, a proposed 7,000-unit project.

County Meetings

Data Centers Town Hall

Residents are invited to a town hall meeting Monday night. It will be Monday, January 6, at 6:30 pm. The meeting is at the county admin building. Its purpose is to discuss two data centers. They are looking to build off Rocky Creek Road and Simpson Mill Road.

The zoning board considered both projects in November 2024. They recommended approval on Rocky Creek Road, and denial on Simpson Mill Road. The final decision rests with the board of commissioners. They will consider the requests at a later date. That meeting is not yet scheduled.

For those interested, the board has a called meeting at 3 pm before the town hall. It likewise is at the county admin building. The called meeting is a joint meeting with the elections board. The agenda includes discussion of county election law, and possible revisions.

Board of Commissioners Meeting

On Tuesday, January 7, the county commissioners have their first regular meeting of the year. It is a morning meeting at 9 am. Some excerpts from the agenda include the following:

  • [public hearing] consider a new policy to limit when land owners can apply to amend the future land use map. The proposal would limit map amendments to twice annually. Presently, a land owner may apply to amend the map at any time.
  • purchase equipment to install public Wi-Fi at ten county parks.
  • adopt various budget amendments to the SPLOST V program, and increase the contingency budget for the under-construction aquatic center.
  • award construction bids for two dirt road paving projects, Dutchtown Road and Burg Road.

A public hearing for a new subdivision off Keys Ferry Road has been postponed. The meeting agenda and meeting materials are on the county website.

Zoning Board Meeting

Next, the county zoning board meets on Thursday, January 9, at 6:30 pm. They too meet at the admin building in McDonough. Agenda items include considering The Grove. It is a proposed mixed-use project on US Highway 19 / 41.

The zoning board will also consider a rezoning request on Anvil Block Road in Ellenwood. The applicant is proposing an active-adult 55 and older townhome community. The proposal has 204 units on 44 acres.

Next, the agenda has two conditional use permits. They are for a group home on Panola Road, Ellenwood, and a dog kennel on LG-Griffin Road, Locust Grove. Finally, there are three variance requests for new homes in Woolsey Estates subdivision. The subdivision is off Lower Woolsey Road in Hampton.

City Meetings

Locust Grove Council

The Locust Grove council meets on Monday, January 6, at 6 pm. They meet at the city’s public safety building on Highway 42. Some agenda items are as follows:

  • approve a cost proposal for a water / sewer impact fee rate study,
  • appoint various committee appointments, and
  • approve building renderings for a new Piedmont Healthcare doctor’s office.

Stockbridge Council

The Stockbridge council has a retreat on Wednesday, January 8. It is at Merle Manders Conference Center beginning at 9 am. An agenda is not yet available. The council’s first council meeting of the year will be on Monday, January 13.

School Board

Finally, the Henry County school board will host its organizational meeting on Thursday, January 9, at 4:30 pm. This meeting will cover swearing-in new and reelected members. The board will also select its chair and vice-chair for 2025.

The school board’s first regular meeting of the year will be on Monday, January 13. The board holds a study session at 4 pm, then the regular session at 7 pm. They meet at the school district office in downtown McDonough.
