Speed Limit Changes November 2024
On November 19, the county approved updating its speed detection list. This is a list of county roads on which law enforcement may use speed detection equipment more commonly known as radar. It also provides an opportunity to update speed limits. The county may change the speed limit based on crash history and / or residents’ requests. The roadway design is also an important consideration to set the speed limit. Factors such as narrow lanes or tight curves may limit the speed limit.
The November 2024 speed limit changes include the following:
- East Lake Road, SR155 to SR20, 3.80 miles, 45mph (revised to reflect portion of East Lake Road to remain posted at 45mph),
- East Lake Road, SR20 to Harper Road, 0.65 miles, 35mph (reduced speed limit from 45mph to 35mph),
- East Lake Road, Harper Road to North Ola Road, 1.27 miles, 45mph (reduced speed limit from 50mph to 45mph),
- North Mount Carmel Road, Mount Carmel Road to Jonesboro Road, 1.52 miles, 35mph (reduced speed from 45mph to 35mph),
- West Village Parkway, Clayton County Line to 530 feet west of Bowden Road, 0.21 miles, 40mph (revised to provide for more clarity of speed limit along West Village Parkway), and
- West Village Parkway, 530 feet west of Bowden Road to Fairview Road, 0.75 miles, 35mph (revised to provide more clarity of speed limit along West Village Parkway).
Henry County DOT staff should be changing the speed limit signage in the near-future.
SR 42 in Locust Grove
Separate from the above changes, Georgia DOT recently changed the speed limit on highway 42 in Locust Grove. They lowered the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph between the railroad overpass and Marketplace Blvd. The city requested GDOT to review the speed limit in spring 2023.
