In 2022, Henry County resurfaced half of the tennis courts at Richard Craig Park. Now, the county has approved a bid to resurface the remaining courts. Richard Craig Park is located in McDonough.

Richard Craig Park Resurfaced Tennis Courts

On November 5, Henry County approved the resurfacing of tennis courts. The staff report offered the following details about the project:

Richard Criag tennis courts are the most used tennis courts in our county. Within the last two years, we resurfaced six (6) of the 12 courts. This bid will resurface the remaining six (6) that are severely cracking. These courts are used daily for league play, training, programs, and tournaments.

The county approved the bid to Christaline, LLC DBA Match Point Tennis of Marietta, GA. The project cost will be $146 thousand. The work is being paid for through impact fees. An estimated timeframe to complete the project was not immediately available.

The vendor was the second-highest bid Henry County received. The low bidder, Johnson Construction Group, had to withdraw their bid because of clerical errors in their price quote. Henry County received no other bidders for the project.

In September, Henry County applied for a grant from USTA Tennis Venue Services Grant. This grant would have covered part of the project costs. The November meeting, to approve the resurfacing costs, did not mention the grant nor whether Henry County resurfaced it.

Parks Master Plan

In August, Henry County adopted its parks master plan. This represents the county’s first parks plan in fifty years. Several years of planning went into its creation.

The plan recommended renovations to the Richard Craig tennis courts. That project has a cost estimate of $3.4 million. More details about that project — what it includes and when it could occur — are not yet available.
