Raising Cane’s, known for fried chicken fingers, is looking to build their first McDonough location. The company first opened locations in metro Atlanta in 2023.

Raising Cane’s applied for a commercial development permit on April 4. They plan to locate at I-75 and Jonesboro Road.

Raising Cane’s McDonough

Raising Cane’s, founded in Louisiana in 1996, has a focus on fried chicken fingers. Their menu is simple, offering tender combos or a tender sandwich. Sides include fries, coleslaw and Texas toast. The company has been present in Athens, GA since 2006. Many Bulldog fans are familiar with the brand because of this location.

Despite the tenured presence close to UGA, the company only started opening locations in the Atlanta area in 2023. In November 2022, they announced plans to open ten company-owned locations. Since then, Raising Cane’s has opened in Buford and Dacula, both in Gwinnett County, as well as Woodstock. Two other locations are coming soon to Gwinnett.

On April 4, Raising Cane’s applied for a commercial development permit. The company plans to build at 1842 Jonesboro Road. This is the site of the former O’Charley’s restaurant. O’Charley’s closed in October 2023. It opened in 2003.

It would seem most likely Raising Cane’s will demolish the current building, though that’s not known for sure right now. They have demolished the existing buildings to build their other Atlanta locations. This allows them to build their preferred layout on the site. Their typical restaurant ranges between 3,500 to 4,500 square feet. By contrast, the old O’Charley’s building is 6,700 square feet.

An estimated opening date is not yet available. MHF News will share more updates as we learn more.
