New signage could soon line the interstate and major highways when entering the city of Stockbridge. The city approved its new wayfinding signage plan in March.

Next steps include hiring a contractor to build the signs. Initial cost estimates are $1.15 million.

Stockbridge Wayfinding Plan

The Stockbridge council approved their new sign plan at the March 23 council meeting. The consultant, Sky Design, presented it earlier in the month. The new Stockbridge wayfinding plan proposes new gateway signs into the city, wayfinding signs to city destinations and new building markers.

There are three tiers of gateway signs. The largest would be along the interstate. It has two columns with a large ”Stockbridge” between them. The plan recommends three locations. They are I-75 North at Jodeco Road, I-75 South at SR 138 and I-675 South before crossing over I-75. The large gateways would cost an estimated $180 thousand each. Together, they represent about half of the overall project budget.

The secondary and third type of gateway consist of one column. The secondary gateway is a larger version of the third. The plan recommends three secondary gateways and four of the third gateway. These would be on highways and major roads as motorists enter the city of Stockbridge.

Next, the plan calls for new wayfinding signage around Stockbridge. This would help direct motorists to key locations, such as the amphitheater or city hall. There would also be new building and park entrance signs.

Finally, the plan includes a mock-up of pedestrian kiosks, public parking signs and street name signs.
