Henry County approved a security upgrade and new HVAC units for the jail. Board action occurred during the January 17 meeting.

The new security cameras also include the courthouse and state court building. Together, the two projects represent $2.6 million in investment.

Jail HVAC Units

The new jail HAVC units consist of five water chilled air handler units. The county is purchasing them through Trane U.S Inc. of Doraville, GA. The purchase price equals $1,744,883. This includes installation of the new units.

County staff determined a need for new units following a recent inspection. The outgoing units are twenty plus years old and in disrepair. Funding for the units will be from the county’s fund balance.

The county replaced the jail roof in 2020. Discussions are ongoing how best to add additional capacity at the facility.

Security Cameras

In addition, the county approved new security cameras. The upgrade covers the courthouse, judicial annex and jail. The Sheriff’s Office requested the expenditure.

ComTech Communications of Georgia, Inc. based in Stockbridge is the project vendor. The purchase will update and replace nearly three-hundred cameras. The cameras are capable of monitoring body temps to help detect COVID-19.

ARPA funding will pay for the $871,541.33 purchase. The cost also includes installing the new cameras. The purchase price includes the following:

  • Superior Courthouse – $248,733.52
  • State Court Building – $252,587.71
  • Henry County Jail – $370,220.10

The Sheriff’s Office will budget funds in the upcoming year for the annual maintenance contract.
