Locust Grove ballot asks homeowners to be city tax exempt

Voters within the city limits of Locust Grove have a local ballot question on homestead exemption happening now. Early voting for the November 8 election began on Monday, October 17.

Update: voters approved the homestead exemption with 2,800 yes votes (87%) to 422 no votes.

Specifically, the ballot question asks whether Locust Grove should adopt a 100% homestead exemption. Homestead exemptions provide home owners with property tax relief. In the case of Locust Grove, the ballot question would exempt homeowners from any future city property tax. The city does not presently levy a property tax, but can do so in the future if need be.

Homestead exemptions require a voter referendum to pass in order to take effect. The homestead exemption passed the state legislature earlier this year.

Early Vote Now

Early voting is now open for November election. Henry County voters may early vote at whichever location is most convenient to them. The county offers four early voting locations — one within each city — during the weeks of October 17 and Oct. 24. Two additional locations are available during the final week: October 31–November 4.

In addition to the Locust Grove ballot question, voters are also deciding the county commissioner for three districts. On the ballot are districts 3, 4 and 5 located in the Ola, McDonough, Union Grove, Eagles Landing and Dutchtown areas.
