Georgia DOT routinely makes schedule adjustments on projects. In the latest adjustments, construction funding to widen state route 155 has moved from Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 to FY 2026. Widening SR 155 extends between I-75 and state route 42.
In addition, right of way funding moved from FY 2022 to FY 2024. The state’s 2022 fiscal year started in July, but the project is not yet ready to begin acquiring right of way.
Widening State Route 155
At this time, the state DOT has $50 million dollars budgeted to widen SR 155. Funding includes the following:
- Scoping (FY 2016) – $709k
- Preliminary engineering (FY 2016) – $2.29m
- Right of way acquisition (FY 2024) – $7.6m
- Utilities relocation (FY 2026) – $3.3m
- Construction (FY 2026) – $36.12m
Georgia DOT is fully funding the project with state dollars. No federal dollars are part of the project.
Project Update
In an update shared with Moving Henry Forward, the project is in the final stages of concept development. The project team is working towards hosting a public information open house during the first quarter of 2022. The open house presents a draft concept layout and provides the general public their first glimpse of the project. It also allows the public to submit comments and suggest changes to the planned layout.
Following concept development, the project will advance into the environmental process and preliminary design. The design consultant will also begin to develop right of way plans. The right of way plans show property acquisition needs for the project.
Other Major Projects
Georgia DOT has also committed funding to a second phase of widening state route 155. The second project would extend from I-75 to Hampton-Locust Grove Road. Presently, the project has design funding in FY 2026. Construction dollars are in FY 2030.
In addition, the state pledged funding earlier this year to build a new interstate exit near Bethlehem Road. Georgia DOT committed $114 million towards the project. The new exit is presently in design. Construction is forecast to start in 2024. The new exit should open in 2027.
