Georgia DOT’s annual report to the Georgia General Assembly lists ongoing projects throughout the state. The report includes any state project with total estimated costs greater than $10 million dollars.
Here in Henry County, there are eight major projects in pre-construction stages. Pre-construction stages indicate either preliminary engineering or right of way acquisition. Construction dates range between FY 2022, starting later this year, and FY 2026.
Altogether, the eight projects create an investment of $401.3 million into local roads. Projects consist of widening the roadway to four travel lanes, unless otherwise stated. Generally, widening projects also include adding a divided center median and turn lanes.

Construction Projects
Henry County has one major project presently under construction: concrete rehab on I-75. The project limits extend between state route 54 / mile 233 and Walt Stephens Road / mile 226. Construction costs equal $15,420,200.
The state awarded a second project for interstate maintenance earlier this month. Concrete rehab on I-675 will begin this summer following a February letting. The project extends between I-285 in DeKalb County and I-75.
The one-way pair project in McDonough opened all lanes in late December 2020. Following punch list work, the project should be listed in next year’s report as complete.
Other Projects
Other projects, such as roundabouts or the under-construction diverging diamond interchange in McDonough, have total costs less than $10 million. Roundabout projects include the following:
- State Route 20 at Lawrenceville Street / McGarity Road
- State Route 81 at Snapping Shoals Road / Jackson Lake Road
- SR 81 at New Morn Drive
- SR 155 at Panola Road
Finally, constructing a new interstate exit at Bethlehem Road is in the design phase. Georgia DOT staff expressed earlier this year their plan to pursue a design-build contract for the project. They anticipate starting construction in 2024. The latest cost estimate is around $50 million dollars.
All cost estimates as of February 2021. MMIP projects, such as the I-75 commercial vehicle lanes, are excluded from cost totals or project summaries.
