The Locust Grove city council approved on January 19 calling for a special election to fill a vacancy on the city council. Election Day is March 16, 2021.

The vacancy exists after councilman Randy Gardner moved outside of the municipal boundaries. The election is to fill the unexpired term through December 31, 2021.

Candidate qualifying will take place starting Monday, February 15, through Wednesday, February 17. Interested candidates may qualify at city hall between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm each day. The qualifying fee shall be $252.00.

The city’s election coincides with the countywide education SPLOST VI referendum. The E-SPLOST VI referendum asks voters to renew education SPLOST for another five years. E-SPLOST collections fund capital projects in the local school system.

The city polling place is different from county polling places. On Election Day, city residents must vote at the Locust Grove library to participate in the city election. Their county polling place may be different for the E-SPLOST referendum. For example, some city residents vote at Locust Grove United Methodist Church for county offices. Voters that participate in early voting may participate in both ballots at one location.

The board of elections will adopt the early voting schedule closer to the election.
