2021 LMIG application includes road resurfacing

Henry County commissioners approved their annual application for state LMIG funds during the January 6 meeting. The Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) is awarded annually by Georgia DOT to counties and cities across the state.

The amount of grant funds received by each local government is based on population and maintained road mileage. LMIG is the primary source of resurfacing dollars for Henry County.

2021 LMIG Application

In 2021, Henry County will receive $2,070,619.84 from the state. The grant requires a thirty percent local match, valued at $621,185.95, paid for through the DOT asphalt budget. The total available funding — rounded up to $2.7 million — is then divided five ways for each commission district. This year, each district had a budget of $540,000 for LMIG projects.

District I

• Heron Bay Boulevard
  SR 155 to Blue Sky
  Length: 1.1 miles
  Cost: $400,000
• Racetrack Road
  Salvation Army / City Limits to Travis Road
  Length: 0.9 miles
  Cost: $140,000
  *SPLOST funding will provide the difference to resurface between Travis Road and SR 81.

District II

• New Morn Drive
  SR 20 to SR 81
  Length: 1.3 miles
  Cost: $540,000

District III

• Elliott Road
  Bridge over Walnut Creek to East Lake Road
  Length: 1.7 miles
  Cost: $540,000
  *Section between SR 20 and the bridge was resurfaced in 2020.

District IV

• Streets within Cotton Creek Subdivision:
  – Cotton Creek Drive between Crumbley Road and Riverwalk
  – Riverwalk between Cotton Creek Drive and Clearwater Drive
  – Clearwater Drive between Riverwalk and Airline Road
  – Clyde Court between Cotton Creek Drive and end
  Combined Length: 1.1 miles
  Cost: $470,000
• Harold Drive
  Peach Drive to Tunis Road
  Length: 0.6 miles
  Cost: $70,000

District V

• Hearn Road
  Fairview Road to Austin Road
  Length: 1.2 miles
  Cost: $540,000

All costs are estimates. Final costs may be different after bids are received.

SPLOST Resurfacing

In addition to LMIG funds, the county also budgets resurfacing dollars through the SPLOST program. This year’s resurfacing package is expected to include other roads funded through SPLOST dollars. The list of additional roadways is not yet available.
