Henry County commissioners on October 20 awarded a design contract for the widening of Fairview Road. The project extends from the Home Depot entrance near Panola Road to Hearn Road for a distance of approximately 2.15 miles.
Kimley-Horn & Associates of Atlanta, GA submitted the lowest bid out of eight vendors in the amount of $274,500. The contract is funded through the SPLOST V program.
The intent of the project is to widen Fairview Road from a rural two-lane road to a four-lane divided urban road. The Fairview Road widening project has a budget of $11,000,000, or 56% of the district V SPLOST V budget.
In SPLOST III collected between 2008 and 2014, $13.8 million was spent to widen Fairview Road between Anvil Block Road and the Home Depot entrance. In the most recent program SPLOST IV, the widening of Anvil Block Road between Clayton County and Fairview Road incurred expenses of $6.9 million. The new project continues where the previous widening projects left off.
Earlier this year, commissioners awarded a construction contract for the widening of West Village Parkway between the Clayton County line and Fairview Road. The project has construction costs of $6.5 million and a total combined budget between SPLOST IV and SPLOST V of $13.2 million. An estimated $4.48 million in SPLOST V dollars should be available to apply towards other projects after its completion.

- park improvements – $1,000,000
- Fairview sidewalks & path improvements – $250,000
- districtwide resurfacing funds – $1,668,800
Park improvements projects on the horizon include the addition of multipurpose sports fields behind the county’s new Fairview public safety campus. A request for proposals (RFP) for the project was published by the county this month.
A second project includes improvements at Hidden Valley Park. The county’s plans, to construct two (2) new pickle ball courts and renovate the four (4) existing tennis courts, accepted proposals until October 26 at 3 pm. The pickle ball courts are planned to be constructed on the site of the former basketball court.
