Henry County commissioners have a called meeting next Tuesday, December 10, at 2 pm to discuss the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) project solicitation. The meeting will take place at the Henry County Administration Building located on Henry Parkway in McDonough.
Mr. John Orr, manager of the transportation and mobility group at the Atlanta Regional Commission, will be present to provide the update. County chair June Wood serves as the committee vice-chair on the regional commission’s transportation & air quality committee and has been instrumental in encouraging dialogue between Henry County and ARC.
About the Project Solicitation
ARC held an open call for projects this fall for local governments in the metro Atlanta region to apply for federal transportation funding. If awarded, federal dollars cover eighty percent of project costs with the remaining twenty percent covered via a local match.
ARC received a total of 180 applications requesting $564 million in federal funds. Henry County is the largest applicant, by dollar amount, applying for $68,520,000 towards eleven projects.
Henry County’s largest projects, asking for construction funds to widen Rock Quarry Road and phase I of the state route 81 widening in Ola, are two of the four largest requests in the entire region. The projects are requesting construction funding after receiving engineering funds in the 2015 solicitation and right of way acquisition funds in the 2017 solicitation.
The county also requested construction funding to complete the north segment of the McDonough Parkway, preliminary engineering towards an additional four widening projects and one new road project, and resurfacing funds for three roadways. The full list of projects is available in our previous blog post.
