Stockbridge residents took to the polls this week to elect their city council members. Two of the three incumbents were re-elected.
Stockbridge uses an at-large election to decide their council members, where the top three vote getters win seats. Nine candidates qualified for the election and appeared on the ballot.
The top vote getter, Yolanda Barber, received 817 voters, or 16.29%, to win her first term on the city council. Barber was a grassroots leader among Stockbridge residents during last year’s referendum to create a city of Eagle’s Landing and her professional background includes over twenty-two years in sourcing and procurement management.
Incumbent John Blount, and the city’s current mayor pro temp, was elected to another term with 815 votes, or 16.25%.
Sitting council members Elton Alexander and Neat Robinson were separated by four votes for the third and final spot. Alexander received 694 votes (13.84%) to win the seat whereas Robinson received 690 votes (13.76%).
Other candidates finished as follows: Nathan Banks – 493 votes, Cherice Hollis – 460 votes, Arthur Christian – 448 votes, Kenneth McFarland – 366 votes, and Jacqueline Blalock – 215 votes.
In the other ballot question, Stockbridge residents approved Sunday brunch alcohol sales 66.39% yes to 33.61% no.
