The Atlanta Transit Link Authority (ATL) and Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) have announced upcoming open houses for their respective regional plans. ATL is completing their inaugural regional transit plan after the agency’s creation in 2018 and ARC is completing a ten year update to the Atlanta region’s plan.

ATL Authority Regional Transit Plan

The Atlanta Transit Link Authority was created under HB 930 in 2018 to encourage better dialogue and collaboration between transit providers in the metro Atlanta area. The authority is compiling their inaugural regional transit plan and will hold a series of open houses in October to collect feedback from residents. One open house will be held in each ATL district.

The majority of Henry County, those areas located east of Interstate 75, are located in district 9 alongside northwest Clayton and south DeKalb Counties. The remainder of Henry County, those areas west of Interstate 75, are in district 10 with the remainder of Clayton, Coweta, and Fayette Counties. Residents may attend any open house even if it is not for the district where they reside.

  • Wednesday, October 9, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at Merle Manders Conference Center, Stockbridge
  • Tuesday, October 22, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at Clayton County Performing Arts Center, Jonesboro

Open houses will start with a brief presentation and overview about the ATL Authority and regional transit plan. Afterwards, information boards and staff members will be available to answer questions and collect feedback.

ARC Atlanta Region’s Plan

The Atlanta Regional Commission’s regional plan is being updated to extend the planning horizon from year 2040 to 2050. The plan discusses regional planning, the future of transportation technology, housing affordability, transit expansion, and population and demographic trends.

ARC has announced six open houses to offer residents the opportunity to provide comments and feedback about the plan. Although none of the events will take place inside Henry County, two are in neighboring communities.

  • Wednesday, October 9, 5 pm – 8 pm at Arts Clayton, 136 S Main St, Jonesboro, GA
  • Tuesday, October 15, 5 pm – 8 pm at Conyers Rockdale Arts Council, 910 Center St. NE, Conyers, GA

The open houses offer info-graphics and interactive elements about the plan topics. Residents may stop by anytime while the event is ongoing.

Community members interested in learning more about the ATL Authority, Atlanta Regional Commission, regional transit service, or regional planning are encouraged to make plans to attend one or more of the events detailed above. These events represent a great opportunity for local residents to become more involved and provide feedback about the entire metropolitan Atlanta area and the plans that will guide its development in the future.
