The Locust Grove city council will hold two public hearings on Tuesday, January 22, at 6:00 pm related to proposed changes in the city’s commercial zoning districts. Meetings are held at the city’s public safety building along highway 42.
A local business owner has approached the city council about opening a tattoo shop in the Shane’s Rib Shack shopping center on Bill Gardner Parkway. Current city ordinance does not allow tattoo shops in commercial zoning districts, only industrial districts, and the business owner has requested changes be made. Previous council meetings have discussed implementing a population-based quota system like the city uses for liquor stores and pawn shops.
Copies of the proposed changes are enclosed inside the meeting packet uploaded to the city website. The meeting agenda provides the following information:
- Ordinance to amend Title 17, Chapter 17.04, Section 17.04.134(d) – Section 3-7-153 – C-2: general commercial district adopted as amended (Conditional Use) in the City of Locust Grove Code of Ordinances.
- Ordinance to amend Title 17, Chapter 17.04, Section 17.04.135(d) – Section 3-7-154 – C-3: heavy commercial district adopted as amended (Conditional Use) in the City of Locust Grove Code of Ordinances.
Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to hear the proposed changes and ask questions during the public hearing. The city typically votes on proposed ordinance changes at the council’s next meeting after the public hearing, scheduled for February 11.
Colvin Drive Annexation
The council will consider an application for annexation of 9.97 acres located at 340 Colvin Drive. This is not a public hearing item, but some readers may find it noteworthy. If the application is accepted, city staff will notify the county about the proposed annexation before the council decides at a later date to accept or decline the annexation.
The land owners intend to maintain an RA (residential agricultural) zoning if accepted into the city.
