The second phase of the ClayCo industrial development in Locust Grove has been scheduled for a public hearing. The city council will receive citizens’ comments on the proposed project during the upcoming council meeting on Monday, November 19, at 6 pm. Meetings are held at the Locust Grove public safety building along Georgia 42.

The project is located along Price Drive between Bethlehem Road and Bill Gardner Parkway. ClayCo Realty Group started this project in 2016 when it received approval from the council to build phase I. The first portion of the project constructed one warehouse on 79.4 acres. That building is now complete and available for leasing.

The proposed development will construct five warehouses on 264 acres. The facilities total 3.3 million square feet of new industrial space. The project will also reconstruct Price Drive into a three-lane industrial strength roadway. Price Drive is a narrow dirt road today.

Historically the freight cluster has been focused along state route 155; however, this project and others like it in Locust Grove have shown a southward expansion of the freight cluster. Interest in the area from developers can be attributed to the selection of Bethlehem Road for the future I-75 interchange. The exit is on schedule to be built in 2025.

The proposed rezoning is supported by the city’s future land use map. Since phase I has already been approved and constructed, it is anticipated that the city council will approve the request.
