The McDonough council has an upcoming rezoning request on their May agenda. The council will consider a request for a new gas station at Racetrack Road and Iris Lake.
The property annexed into city limits in 2004. It presently has a residential agricultural (RA) zoning.
Racetrack Road Gas Station

The proposed gas station is on the southwest corner of Racetrack Road at Iris Lake. The corner property consists of four acres. The applicant, Buddy Kelley Properties, is requesting a rezoning from RA to C-3 (highway commercial).
The proposed development includes a convenience store and drive-thru restaurant. There would be vehicle access from both roads. More info about the proposal is not yet available.
The McDonough council will hear a workshop presentation about the request this week. Their workshop meeting is on Thursday, May 4. Later this month, the council will hold a public hearing and vote on the request. That meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 22. Meetings occur at city hall. They start at 6 pm.
A new roundabout is presently under construction at the intersection. It will be complete later this year. In addition, a new BP is building on the northwest corner of the intersection.
Other developments happening nearby include new housing behind Publix at Lake Dow. The project will have a mixture of apartments, single-family homes and townhomes. Finally, there are plans for new commercial space on the north side of highway 81. The new businesses will be directly across the street from Publix.
