Work began at the beginning of the year on a new apartment complex off Travis Drive in McDonough. The project, entitled Arcadia at Symphony Park, is behind the Publix at Lake Dow shopping center.

The developer, Third Lake Development of Tampa, FL, founded in 2020. They expect the new development will be complete in 2024.

The apartments will have 250 units located in three-story buildings. At the time of rezoning, the site plan had six buildings plus an amenities area. Third Lake Development employed Geheber Lewis Associates as project architect. Focus Design Interiors is the interior designer.

The new apartments will be on 27 acres. The land is located directly west of Travis Drive. Clearing work is underway now. The clearing access point will be an entrance when the project is complete.

Arcadia at Symphony Park is part of a larger residential development. Blue River Development of Cumming, GA represented the property during rezoning. They received zoning approval in April 2021. The project plans up to a total of 484 units on 107 acres.

Symphony Park will also have single-family detached lots and townhomes. There are eighty acres set aside for this construction. Riz Communities of Atlanta will be the homebuilder. To provide road access, the roadway between Lake Dow Publix and Walgreens will extend further south into the property.

A timeframe for the single-family lot development was not readily available, though surveying work has begun.

Road Connectivity

Many years ago, McDonough contemplated a future road extension. The road would extend Lake Dow Road south to tie into Racetrack Road at Iris Lake. This extension would bisect the Symphony Park property as well as the Iris Lake Villages subdivision. The city required empty lots in Villages subdivision for the future road.

The initial concept plan for Symphony Park had this road connection. It was later removed at the request of the city. City officials at the time did not wish for the road to become a high-speed cut-through. As a result, road access for Symphony Park will be limited to the Publix shopping center and Travis Drive.
