Henry County has approved hiring a design engineer for the East Atlanta Road widening project. The project will extend from Fairview Road to Rex Road.

The design contract is paid for by Henry County SPLOST VI. It is one of 17 major projects on the county’s project list.

East Atlanta Road Widening Design

Henry County accepted design proposals in February for the East Atlanta Road widening project. The county received six proposals from interested firms. Following staff evaluation, American Engineers, Inc. dba STV Services of Atlanta ranked the highest. They provided a design fee in the amount of $1,219,600.00. The board of commissioners approved this cost at their May 6, 2025 meeting. Design work for a major road widening project typically lasts about 1-2 years.

The widening project covers a distance of about one mile. The design will be for a four-lane divided road with sidewalks. In addition, the project will include a design for intersection improvements at East Atlanta Road and Rex Road. The SPLOST VI project list included funds for both road widening and the intersection improvement.

The SPLOST VI program budgeted $2.7 million for the road widening project* and $5.8 million for East Atlanta at Rex Road. Both projects are located in commission district 2.

*The East Atlanta Road widening project current funding is for design only. At this time, the county has not yet identified funding for right of way acquisition nor construction. East Atlanta Road, like many other county projects, will be a candidate for possible funding in T-SPLOST 2. Henry County voters will consider T-SPLOST 2 in 2026.
