The third of six classroom additions in E-SPLOST VI can now start construction. Henry County Schools approved the bid to build the Dutchtown Middle School classroom addition. It will be complete in summer 2026.
Dutchtown Middle School Classroom Addition
Voters approved education SPLOST VI in 2021. The program includes additions at six middle and high schools. So far, the Dutchtown High School addition finished in 2023 and the Ola Middle School addition started construction this year. The third project, a classroom addition at Dutchtown Middle School, received board approval on November 11, 2024.
Henry County Schools accepted bids in October. They received six bids for the project. J&R Construction of Carrollton, GA submitted the lowest bid. Their cost was $6,674,735. This is believed to be the first Henry County project for the contractor. They have an extensive portfolio completing school projects in other counties.
The project will add 12 classrooms onto the building, according to Henry County Schools. This includes an orchestra room, three science labs and eight standard classrooms. Teacher workrooms, restrooms and offices are also part of the addition. The construction site will be on the east end of the building.
The district expects work to start by year’s end. It will be complete in May 2026. Students will then start to use the new classrooms for the 2026-27 school year.
Did You Know?
Georgia considers three areas when determining a school’s max capacity. Those are the size of the media center, cafeteria and kitchen. Each school in Henry County is overbuilt specifically in these three areas. This provides the option for a future classroom addition.
Separate from this project, the Flippen Road extension is also under construction. The new road will provide Dutchtown parents and students with improved access to and from the schools. It will provide access to the existing traffic signal at Jonesboro Road and North Mt. Carmel Road. Construction began in August 2024. Henry County expects it will be complete in January 2026.
About Dutchtown Middle School

Classroom Projects
In addition to classroom additions, the E-SPLOST VI program has three new schools. They are the STEM high school in Stockbridge and two new elementary schools. Construction began this fall on the STEM high school. It will open in August 2027. The first new elementary school, Birch Creek, opened in McDonough this past August. A second new school will follow in Locust Grove. It’s estimated to open in 2028.
