What’s on the Ballot?

On the ballot are President, US House and county offices. In addition, voters will consider the county’s SPLOST VI referendum. Finally, voters in Stockbridge and Locust Grove have local ballot referenda.

The following local races have contested elections:

  • Sheriff
  • County Commissioner District 1
  • County Commissioner District 4
  • Georgia State Senate
    • District 10
    • District 42
  • Georgia State House
    • District 81
    • District 116

Other county offices are unopposed on the November ballot. Several offices had contested primaries in the spring, but no opposition in the general election. A full list of candidates is here.

Next, all Henry County voters are being asked to renew the SPLOST program. This is a one-percent local sales tax for capital projects. More info about the SPLOST program and its project list are available here.

In the county’s most-northern city, Stockbridge, voters have a homestead exemption question. This would create a new homestead exemption on the city’s property taxes. Stockbridge began to levy a property tax in 2023.

Finally, voters in Locust Grove have two items. First, voters within the city limits have a special election for mayor and council. Secondly, voters in some residential areas have a referendum whether to annex into city limits. If the annexation vote passes, then these residents would join the city on January 1, 2025.

In August, the county board of elections approved consolidating voting precincts. This consolidation was between the county and Locust Grove precincts. The city council likewise approved this measure in the summer. This plan was passed so voters could vote for federal, state, county and city offices on the ballot. Historically, city election items were on a separate ballot.

Henry County shared this week that voters within Locust Grove, and those who reside in the area voting on annexation, will need to vote on two separate ballots. The first ballot will be for President, US Congress, county offices and all other general election ballot items. The second ballot will be for Locust Grove mayor and council, or annexation, based on where they reside. Voters can complete this during early voting, on Election Day, or by absentee ballot. They can complete this at their regular county polling place.

According to Locust Grove, errors occurred at the county level when compiling the ballot. The specifics of those errors have not been shared.
