Georgia DOT has approved the construction contract for the western parallel connector, a new four-lane road beside I-75 in Stockbridge. The new road will provide an alternate road instead of I-75 for local traffic.
The western parallel connector will link Hudson Bridge, Jodeco and Jonesboro Roads. The estimated completion date is in late 2026.
Western Parallel Connector Construction Contract
Georgia DOT accepted construction bids in May 2024 for the new roadway. They received four bids for the project. The state announced a contract award on Friday, July 5.
E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. of Snellville, GA will be building the new road. They submitted a bid valued at $44,736,597.64. The contract completion date is November 30, 2026.
Much of the road work will take place outside of the public view since it’s a new road project. Road work will be most visible along Mount Olive Road, where the project will widen the existing roadway. Motorists should see the first signs of work this fall.
When complete, the parallel connector will be a new four-lane road. On its northern end, it ties into Hudson Bridge Road beside the McDonald’s. Moving south, it will join Jodeco Road at the Costco development. The road ends as part of Mount Olive Road at Jonesboro Road. The contractor will install a new signal as part of the work.
In addition, there will be two bridges as part of the project. They will cross Pate’s Creek and Pate’s Creek tributary. Finally, the project will build a sidewalk beside the new road.
Other Nearby Widening Projects
The state DOT will be accepting construction bids this fall to widen Rock Quarry Road. That project extends between Eagles Landing Parkway and SR 138. Road work could then start in early 2025.
At the southern end of the parallel connector, Henry County has a widening project on Jonesboro Road. It will be from I-75 to North Mt. Carmel Road. The county expects to begin buying right of way this summer.
Lastly, Henry County is considering a possible widening project for Jodeco Road in SPLOST VI. Voters will consider renewing the SPLOST program this November. For the latest updates on all county road projects, check out this May 2024 article.
