The new Kroger Marketplace at Union Grove opens later this month. The new store, located at state route 155 and East Lake Road in McDonough, will open its doors on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
Kroger at Union Grove represents Henry County’s first Kroger Marketplace. It measures 125,000 square feet. This is about 2.5x times the size of the store it replaces across the street.
Kroger Marketplace at Union Grove
What is a Kroger Marketplace? It offers a wider selection of items in a larger store compared to a conventional grocery. Kroger first announced plans to build a Marketplace store in Henry County in 2016. One year later, the company had to re-evaluate all new stores nationwide and many saw a pause in construction. The company resumed work on the McDonough location in spring 2023.
The store offers a pharmacy drive-thru, dedicated online order pick-up area on the side of the store, and Starbucks inside. There is also a new fueling station to accompany the new grocery.
To support the new grocery store, there will be two new traffic lights at either entrance. They are located one each on state route 155 and East Lake Road. The traffic signal on East Lake Road is set to activate on March 19.
The current Kroger at Union Grove’s last day will Tuesday, March 19. It was originally built in 2001. No information has been shared about future plans for the space.
Outparcels
Whereas most new grocery stores open before their outparcels, the new Kroger is opening in reverse. This was because of its delayed construction. The last outparcel filled in 2023. They include the Burger King, Chick-fil-A, ModWash car wash and Wendy’s.
