Locust Grove is looking to identify how best to improve a local intersection. They hired an engineering firm to evaluate the Tanger Blvd at Indian Creek intersection.
The city council approved hiring WSP Engineers during their October meeting. The firm is the city’s on-call engineering firm.
Tanger at Indian Creek Intersection
Based on current and projected traffic volumes, Locust Grove identified the Tanger Blvd at Indian Creek intersection for improvement. Several developments, such as a grocery store and apartments, are coming to Tanger Blvd. A new gas station is also under construction at the intersection.
The city hired WSP Engineers to complete the following:
- prepare a traffic engineering report, based on traffic volumes and crash data, to recommend possible improvements,
- evaluate the feasibility of an all-way stop, traffic signal or roundabout, and
- complete sketches of the various options.
The above work will cost $17,400. The council approved a contingency amount up to $22,500. The city will use SPLOST V funds for the study.
The report will take an estimated five weeks to complete.
Next Steps
After the report is complete, the city must decide what type of improvement to implement. Then, they will need to approve a subsequent agreement to prepare design plans. This approval could come in early 2024.
If the engineer recommends a new four-way stop, then the city can install one quickly. A new traffic light or roundabout would take 12–18 months to design and build.
