Henry County is presently taking bids for its new aquatic center. This is the second round of bids after no contractors submitted a bid on the project in August. Bids are due in November.

The Henry County Aquatic Center will have a new indoor pool and outdoor water park. It will be located in McDonough.

Aquatic Center Taking Bids

Earlier this summer, the county accepted bids for the new water venue. Bids were due in August; however, no contractors bid on the project. The county is now re-advertising the project for a second round. The bid deadline is Wednesday, November 8. The due date is subject to possible postponements.

If the county receives bids, then staff will review the proposals received. Henry County is using the request for proposals (RFP) process for the new venue. This means the county will review interested contractors based in part on their experience. Cost represents a portion of the review. The lowest bidder does not automatically receive the work.

To provide time for staff review, the county board could consider awarding a contract in early 2024. Construction may then begin next spring. The project has an estimated 18–24 month build time.

About the Aquatic Center

The aquatic center will be located at 1177 Henry Parkway Connector. This is located off the back side of Cotton Fields Golf Course in McDonough. Access will be via the four-lane Henry Parkway. The Georgia 20 widening, now under construction, will connect with the parkway. This will open up additional travel options to reach the site.

The aquatic center has two parts: an indoor venue and outdoor water park. The building features a 50-meter competition pool and therapy warm pool. Outdoors there will be a zero-entry lazy river, activity pool and other water features / slides. Site work also includes two parking lots and a new road to serve the venue.

The SPLOST V program, approved by voters in Nov. 2019, is funding the project. SPLOST V had a $22 million dollar budget for the new center.
