A new CarMax repair center is planning to build within Locust Grove. The site will be for vehicle repairs by CarMax and host a wholesale auction house. The new facility will be located off Price Drive.

The Locust Grove council reviewed plans for the project in December 2022, and again most recently in spring 2023. The new location will not be open for retail sales, such as the case in Stockbridge.

CarMax Repair Center

The new CarMax repair center will be on about forty acres located within the Cubes at Locust Grove development. The Cubes is a 343-acre industrial park which runs the length of Price Drive. It is located on the west side of I-75. The property spans between Bethlehem Road and Bill Gardner Parkway. The first building within the project — a one million square foot building — completed in 2017.

The developer previously contemplated a half-million square feet distribution building on the location. CarMax will now locate there instead. The new CarMax will have three buildings: a service or repair center, car wash and auction building. The buildings will have brick exteriors.

The city council reviewed architectural renderings for the property in December 2022. They approved them at the beginning of the year. The council revisited the project this spring to review landscaping plans. City staff worked with the applicant following council input for the plans to closer align with the city’s landscaping requirements. Staff shared with the council at the May 15 meeting the updated plans were now sufficient for approval.

Locust Grove approved an industrial zoning for the property in 2019. As such, the proposed use did not require a zoning change. Construction on the new CarMax facility can begin soon. There is not an estimated timeframe when the new facility will open.
