Henry County Fire Rescue continues to make investments into its fleet. They received approval to lease the department’s next ladder trucks at the March board meeting.

The county will lease two new ladder trucks. They will take delivery of the vehicles when the current leases expire in 2025.

Lease of Ladder Trucks

Henry County Fire first leased two ladder trucks in 2018. At the time, staff determined a lease option would be more cost-efficient long-term. Prior to 2018, the county was incurring high maintenance bills to maintain 20-year-old ladder trucks. By leasing the vehicles, they can turn them in for new models at the end of each lease. By comparison, purchasing a ladder truck costs $1.3 million.

The build time for a new ladder truck is up to two years. Approving the lease for new trucks now secures the county’s reservation on the assembly line. Henry County Fire will take delivery of the new trucks in 2025. They are presently in year five of seven on the leases for the current vehicles.

The county will lease both vehicles through Ten-8 Fire & Safety, LLC of Forsyth, GA. Ten-8 is an authorized distributor of Pierce apparatus.

Lease payments will begin in February 2025. Both lease options are for seven years, or through February 2032.

100’ Mid Mount Tower

The first ladder truck lease will be for a 100’ Mid Mount Tower. This will be similar to ladder truck 14, pictured above. This unit will cost the county $1.91 million over the lifetime of the lease. The annual payment will be $273,487 with a final optional balloon payment of $459,755.

107’ Ascendant

Secondly, the department will lease a 107’ ascendant. The measurement references the total length of the ladder. The 107’ truck will cost the county $1.512 million. The annual payments will be $204,058 each. In addition, the final optional balloon payment equals $469,609.
