Residents of Fairways @ Cottonfield subdivision spoke out at the recent board meeting over the county’s new aquatic center parking lot. Construction on the new venue could begin in a few short months.

New Aquatic Center Location

Henry County spent years debating where to build its new swim center. They settled on county-owned property at Cotton Fields Golf Course in April 2022. Staff presented a visual rendering of the project last September.

Previous discussions suggested the aquatic center would be off Industrial Blvd. But, The Fairways @ Cottonfield subdivision is on the back side of the golf course off Henry Parkway Connector. If a new parking lot is planned next to their homes, then perhaps the aquatic center will be off the four-lane road. The county has not shared an update on final design plans to indicate either way.

Reginald Jackson, president of the subdivision HOA, spoke during the public comments at the February board meeting. Two of his neighbors also spoke. Together, they expressed opposition to the new aquatic center going next door.

Jackson remarked there are no plans for a buffer or fence between their homes and the aquatic center parking lot. He further added disapproval at the lack of response from board members to his emails. Neighbors added their input was not sought during the venue’s design. There was no response during the board meeting to the residents’ concerns.

According to the county website, redline comments are under review as of February 6. This is typically one of the final steps to complete design plans. Its expected the county will solicit construction bids for the venue soon.
