In today’s Henry Minutes, I provide updates from the February 1 board of commissioners meeting. They include the bid award for renovations at Cochran Park as well as a temporary signal on Rock Quarry Road. Finally, the board approved the 2022 LMIG application for state assistance with road resurfacing. Henry Minutes is a collection of news from around Henry County.

Cochran Park Renovations

Henry County approved a contract worth $183,170 for renovations for Cochran Park. K-Team Engineering & Construction submitted the low bid for the work.

The project includes renovations and repairs to the following buildings:

  • Community building,
  • Concession stand, and
  • Restrooms (concession and freestanding).

Funds from the capital improvements program are paying for the renovations.

Temporary Signal

The board also approved a construction bid for a temporary traffic light. The project location is Rock Quarry Road at Red Oak Road in Stockbridge.

Reedwick, LLC of Villa Rica, GA submitted the low bid worth $77,510.75. The company also installed the new signal at Bill Gardner Parkway and Lester Mill Road.

SPLOST collections will pay for the traffic light. Henry County is concurrently buying right of way to widen Rock Quarry Road. The widening project is forecast to accept construction bids before year end.

2022 LMIG Application

Finally, the board approved the county’s 2022 LMIG application. LMIG is an annual grant through Georgia DOT to assist with local road maintenance.

In 2022, Henry County will receive about $2.3 million in grant funds from Georgia DOT. This requires a 30% match from county funds. When considering both grant funds and the local match, the county has about $3 million for road work.

The county divides the dollars five ways for each commission district. This amount equals $600,000 per district this year. Each district commissioner works with county staff to identify how to allocate the funds. The following roads are on the 2022 work list for resurfacing:

District II
  • Mallards Landing subdivision
    • Teal Vista
