The city of Stockbridge welcomes Frank Trammer as the new police chief. Trammer is expected to take office before October 4, 2021. The experienced decorated law enforcement professional will lead the police force for the city, overseeing sworn officers and civilian employees. He is tasked with developing and implementing the newly created police department for the city of Stockbridge. The community leader will report to the city manager.
Trammer has over twenty years of experience in law enforcement. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Ohio University as well as a Masters of Public Administration from Columbus State University. He presently serves as the Deputy Chief of Police at Georgia Tech Police Department. Trammer also worked for Atlanta PD and Sandy Springs PD during his career.
“At the special called meeting on Monday, September 20, 2021, the mayor and council moved forward and confirmed the historic appointment of Police Chief Frank Trammer, †said Stockbridge City Manager Randy Knighton. “This important hire signifies the city’s commitment to the people of Stockbridge. As a growing, progressive city, the establishment of our police department will provide an important service for all citizens and businesses within the city limits. The city of Stockbridge’s government continues to provide visionary leadership and exceptional municipal services that enhance the quality of life for all of our citizens.”
“I look forward to the Stockbridge Police Department being valued by its citizens,” said Stockbridge Police Chief Frank Trammer. “I believe that serving in law enforcement is an honor and I look forward to serving the community members of Stockbridge.”
Council Confirmation and Property Tax
The city council voted 3-2 to confirm the appointment of Frank Trammer. Council members Elton Alexander, Yolanda Barber and Alphonso Thomas voted yes; whereas, council members John Blount and LaKeisha Gantt voted no. Both Blount and Gantt remarked their votes were not against Trammer himself. The two council members earlier this year requested more info about the city’s plan to pay for its police department.
Its expected that Stockbridge will need to implement a property tax to pay for the department. City Manager Randy Knighton previously referenced a potential 3.5 mills tax in August. This equates to $350 annually on a home valued at $250,000. By comparison, the city of McDonough charges 3.615 mills to operate both police and fire departments. McDonough is presently the only Henry County city with municipal property tax.
Stockbridge residents presently pay 1.824 mills for county police services. This part of the millage rate will drop off when the city’s department is operational.
In addition, the city bonded $3 million in February 2021 for police department start-up funds. The funds will buy police cars and other equipment. The bonds add $535,000 in annual debt repayments for seven years. Repayment begins in 2022.
