The city of McDonough approved a contract earlier this month to construct a new bandstand at Alexander Park West off Jonesboro Road. The design will match the existing bandstand at Avalon Park built in 2019.
The council awarded the $382,859.40 contract to Renfroe Construction Company, LLC on October 1. The project is funded through SPLOST III proceeds collected between 2008 and 2014.

The project’s construction will last an estimated 6–8 months. Offsite fabrication of the trusses and overhead beams requires 4.5 months.
The bandstand will compliment the existing walking path and the park’s most recent addition, a disk golf course completed earlier in the year. The park entrance is located off the under-construction roundabout on Jonesboro Road at Doris Street.
Jonesboro Road park out for bid
The council approved on October 19 placing out for bid the long-awaited Jonesboro Road park. The item was part of the meeting’s consent agenda and adopted without discussion.
The Jonesboro Road park includes 23.22 +/- acres located east of Wesley Lakes Boulevard. The property is jointly owned by the city and county.
The construction contract will include the following:
- completing the right-in / right-out park entrance off Jonesboro Road located across from Micah Drive
- constructing the parking lot with 52 parking spaces and 3 handicap spots
- storm drains and detention pond
- site clearing and grading where necessary
- 8’ wide walking path within the park
- 5’ wide sidewalk from Jonesboro Road
The project is funded through SPLOST IV proceeds. As of December 2019, the city had $473,819 remaining for the park project.
After bids are received, the city council will consider awarding a contract for the project.
