The Henry County SPLOST IV program, approved by voters in November 2013, will collect its last penny on March 31. Though collections may soon end, the program remains busy as several projects are either under construction or in pre-construction stages.
Some of the signature projects completed through the program have included the Campground Road extension, three new fire stations, the Anvil Block Road connector, the roundabout at state route 20 and East Lake Road, and the Bear Creek Senior Center / Recreation Center in Hampton.
In district I, the under-construction southwest segment of the McDonough Parkway is 90% complete. After Henry County completes our portion of the new roadway, Georgia DOT will connect it to state route 20 when they widen the state highway beginning construction in summer 2021. Another district I project, to dirt road pave Peeksville Road between New Hope and the Tussahaw Reservoir, has completed right of way acquisition. 14 of 19 projects are complete in the district.
In district II, the new traffic signal at Hampton-Locust Grove Road and Simpson Mill Road is 85% complete. Another intersection project, to construct a roundabout at Mill and Mt Carmel Road, is expected to be bid out for construction by year end. 20 of 25 projects are complete in the district.
In district III, improvements to the existing signal at SR 155 and Campground Road are 80% complete. Commissioners awarded the design bid this week for a future roundabout at state route 20 and Turner Church Road, and right of way acquisition is complete to build the north segment of the McDonough Parkway. 19 of 25 projects are complete in the district.
District IV has the smallest budget remaining of the five commission districts with $784,421 left out of the original $20 million. Though no projects are actively under construction, the district has spent $6.6 million on road resurfacing, $3.6 million to dirt road pave Elliott Road, and $1.5 million for preliminary engineering to widen Rock Quarry Road. 8 of 13 projects are complete in the district.
In district V, a combined $18.3 million has been allocated for three projects – Village Park at North Henry, the Anvil Block Road connector, and widening West Village Parkway. Right of way acquisition is complete for West Village Parkway with construction budgeted in SPLOST V. 5 of 11 projects are complete in the district.
