The summer resurfacing season is in full swing with work commencing on Sunday night, July 7, to resurface State Route 155 and on Monday night, July 8, for work along I-75 northbound. Resurfacing on I-75 southbound started in June.
Nightly lane closures will be in place to complete maintenance work. Motorists are advised to use caution when approaching and through the work area, expect delays, and consider alternate routes.
I-75 between SR 155 / mile 216 and SR 36 / mile 201
While the project to mill and resurface 13 miles of Interstate 75 from the Georgia 155 interchange (exit 216) to the Georgia 36/Barnesville-Jackson interchange (exit 201) officially started two weeks ago, until now the work has been occurring only in the southbound lanes. Starting this Monday night, July 8, 2019, a separate construction team will be working on the northbound lanes as well. The project will then progress in both directions concurrently until its completion.
Through the project (unless scheduled and announced in advance), the weekday shifts of both teams may go from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the following mornings, and the weekend shifts (Friday and Saturday nights) may go from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. the following mornings.
During the overnight shifts, two-mile long lane closures will be in effect surrounding the work zones in both northbound and southbound lanes, and they will move along the interstate as the crews progress. Motorists should expect delays and are urged to be alert to signage posted in advance of the closures as well as the orange and white barrels that will maneuver traffic into the remaining open lanes. Drivers should slow their speeds and be alert to the crews and their equipment while driving through the work zones.
The entire project is expected to be completed in winter of 2019.
SR 155 between John Frank Ward Blvd / McDonough and Panola Road / DeKalb County line
Starting Sunday, July 7, 2019, Georgia DOT construction crews will begin a project to mill and lay new asphalt on nearly 15 miles of Georgia 155 from John Frank Ward Boulevard in McDonough to Panola Road in Rockdale County. The work will be done in overnight shifts, and on Sunday night, July 7, the work will start at 10:00 p.m. and end at 6:00 a.m. the following morning, but all other nights the work will start at 8:00 p.m.
The crew will move the project along the state highway as its work progresses. Workers will close one lane of traffic while in the work zone, and signage will be placed in advance of the site. A flagging operation will be enacted, with a guide vehicle escorting groups of drivers northward or southward through the work zone on the remaining lane of traffic. Motorists are urged to watch for the signage, to be alert to any directions from the signal flaggers and to carefully and slowly follow the guide vehicle.
The overnight lane closures will be in effect through August 2019.
