Moving Henry Forward is previewing what we can expect in 2019. City council seats will be on the ballot in each of the county’s four cities, alongside the mayor’s seat in Locust Grove.
Municipal elections traditionally see very low turnout, sometimes with as few as 250 voters. Many residents may not be aware the councils hold elections in odd-numbered years, or be unsure if they are eligible to vote in the election. Only residents within city limits may participate.
All cities within Henry County have councils comprised of six members and one mayor. McDonough is the only city that utilizes council districts. The city has two at large seats and four districts.
Mayors in Hampton, McDonough, and Stockbridge were last elected in 2017. Their mayors will next be on the ballot in 2021.
Council seats held by the below individuals will be on the ballot. Qualifying for city candidates occurs in August.

Moving Henry Forward strives to publish non-partisan content and encourages all local officials to consider the community’s input when making decisions. The blog will be posting information about the city elections in hopes to increase voter turnout. All registered voters of Henry County will be able to participate in the SPLOST V referendum at their county polling precinct in November.
