The light will not be activated until the first week of January, weather permitting. An unexpected delay has occurred involving the lane striping and necessary stop bars.

The long-awaited traffic signal at McDonough Parkway and SR 20 / 81 activates Tuesday, December 18, 2018. This project has been completed thanks to collaboration between Georgia DOT, Henry County, and McDonough.

The original signal was installed in March and only meant for detour traffic while Jonesboro Road is closed. That closure has not yet been scheduled. The signal would have been utilized for three to five days then removed. Henry County and McDonough worked with GDOT to receive the necessary permissions to keep a traffic signal at the intersection.

McDonough contributed $50,000 towards the traffic signal. Henry County contributed an additional $36,155. Funds were paid out of McDonough Parkway project accounts in SPLOST IV. The new signal should be a huge help to reduce traffic delays on McDonough Parkway and improve safety for vehicles turning left.
