The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved the county’s 2019 application for the local maintenance improvement grant. The LMIG program is administered by Georgia DOT and provides state funding on an annual basis to local governments for road maintenance projects.

State dollars are distributed based on population and road mileage. Henry County will receive $2,149,354.54 for fiscal year 2019. The program requires a thirty percent local match, equaling $644,806.37, which will be met through in kind labor services and the DOT asphalt budget.

Funds are divided between the five commission districts to resurface roads in unincorporated Henry County. Roads that receive funding are decided by each district commissioner.

District I

  • New Hope Road from SR 81 to east of Leguin Mill Road

District II

  • Amah Lee Road from Steele Drive to Lake Amah Lee Road
  • Bo Simpson Parkway from Simpson Mill Road to SR 20
  • Franklin River Road from Lake Amah Lee Road to US 19/41
  • Industrial Boulevard Avalon Parkway from SR 155 to north of Interstate South Drive*
  • Sidewalks – Engineering and Placement within District II**

District III

  • Burma Road from Stroud Road to the end
  • Wilson Drive from Upchurch Road to North Ola Road

District IV

  • Hemphill Road from SR 138 to SR 155

District V

  • Asante Drive from Missing Lake Drive to its cul-de-sac
  • Davis Road from SR 42 to North Davis Road
  • Homestead Place from Homestead Road to Cumberland Drive
  • Johns Creek Lane from Gardner Road to its cul-de-sac
  • Lost Berry Court from Asante to its cul-de-sac
  • Mansfield Way from Johns Creek Lane to Johns Creek Lane
  • Missing Lake Drive from Panola Road to its cul-de-sac

Cities receive LMIG assistance separate from the county. Local cities will receive the following amounts:

  • Stockbridge – $270,121.69
  • McDonough – $242,978.17
  • Locust Grove – $94,054.46
  • Hampton – $85,893.45

*the county application mentions Industrial Boulevard, but the correct roadway to match the cross-streets is Avalon Parkway. The segment is in severe disrepair because of additional truck traffic on the roadway.
**The program is primarily used to resurface roads, but local governments may utilize LMIG funds for a variety of projects. The full guidelines are available from Georgia DOT.
