The US 23 / SR 42 widening in Stockbridge is now purchasing right of way for the 2.2 mile project. The project extends from SR 138 in Henry County to I-675 in Clayton County.

Right of way acquisition was authorized by Georgia DOT in June 2018 and is estimated to cost $11.1 million. The project is being funded with proceeds from House Bill 170, also known as the transportation funding act of 2015.

Property owners along the corridor will be contacted by Georgia DOT to negotiate a purchase price. Any land owners with questions or concerns may learn more here.

Construction on the four-lane widening project will start in 2020. Construction and utility relocation cost estimates total $27 million. The plans include a ten foot multiuse path and five foot sidewalk to be built along either side of the road.

The project’s initial concept report was approved in 1991. The passage of the transportation funding act of 2015 has provided Georgia DOT the necessary funding to complete this project, and many others like it, throughout the state.
