The SPLOST V committee invites residents to the district II committee meeting on August 23 at 6:30 PM. The meeting will be held at Nash Farm Park, 4361 Jonesboro Road, Hampton, GA.

SPLOST stands for Special Purpose Local Options Sales Tax and is a program utilized by all 159 Georgia counties to fund capital improvements and transportation projects via sales tax. This enables local government to fund major projects without having to raise property tax to cover the construction costs.

SPLOST was first passed by Henry County voters in September 1996, and since then, three subsequent programs have been approved. Henry County SPLOST dollars have invested over five-hundred million into county facilities, public safety, parks and recreation, and transportation infrastructure.

The program is put before voters every six years to decide whether to extend the tax collections, and the SPLOST V committee has been formed to develop a project list in preparation for a voter referendum in November 2019.

The meeting on August 23 will discuss current SPLOST projects and possible future improvements within commission district II. This district covers Henry County west of I-75 and includes the areas of Dutchtown, western McDonough, Hampton, and Luella.

All committee meetings are open to the public. An opportunity for public comments is provided at every meeting.
