The Western Parallel Connector is making progress after the state of Georgia and Atlanta Regional Commission have awarded $44.1 million to Henry County for its construction. These funds are sourced from the 2015 statewide gas tax increase.
The Western Parallel Connector will be a new four-lane road connecting Hudson Bridge, Jodeco, and Jonesboro Roads. The project was first proposed in the mid-2000’s and will serve as an alternate route for interstate travel. New commercial opportunities are developing in the area such as the Jodeco South mixed-use development.
Construction is scheduled for 2022 at a cost of $34.9 million. The full project timeline is as follows:
- Scoping 2017 – $1 million
- Preliminary Engineering 2018 – $2 million
- Right of Way acquisition 2019 – $5.7 million
- Utility relocation 2022 – $500,000
- Construction 2022 – $34.9 million
Other Henry County projects set to receive state funding include the widening of Georgia 20, Georgia 42, Georgia 155, and Jonesboro Road. All projects have construction funding allocated in 2023 or earlier.
