McDonough Road Resurfacing in Avalon

The city of McDonough accepted construction bids in May 2025 for road resurfacing. The city separated the work into three contracts. CW Matthews Contracting Co. of Marietta, GA was the lowest bidder on each contract. The city council approved the contracts at their May 19 meeting.

The table below provides a summary of each contract:

Contract 2 includes South Point Blvd from State Route 20 to State Route 81, in addition to the Parkside at Avalon subdivision.

CW Matthews will have 90 days to complete the projects. The ninety days begins when the city issues the notice to proceed for work to start.

Altogether, the work will cost the city $2.356 million. This equates to a cost per mile of $242 thousand. Subdivisions streets cost less to resurface than compared to major roads. This is based on several factors such as traffic control requirements, lane width and asphalt depth.

McDonough is using SPLOST V funds to pay for the work. SPLOST V collections ran from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2025. The latest program, SPLOST VI, began collections on April 1, 2025.
