Game 1 kicked off with fireworks when Pinecrest’s Matthew Mitchell launched a two-run homer in the first inning. The Cougars responded swiftly in the second; Daylen Williams delivered a momentum-shifting three-run blast to center on an 0-2 count. The inning saw Creekside pile on five runs and seize control of the game.
Pinecrest fought back to tie it at 5-5 in the third, but Creekside wouldn’t be denied. Senior Trey Gatlin came through with a clutch double in the fourth inning, driving in two runs to retake the lead. From there, the bullpen held strong: Bryce McCadden threw three innings of shutout relief to earn the win. Brady McCadden closing the door with 1.2 innings of no-hit ball.
Game 2 started with Pinecrest once again jumping ahead, but Creekside’s offense refused to stay quiet. Daylen Williams continued his tear, tying the game with an RBI double. Runs from Gatlin, Nemo Lymon, and Zack Clark pushed the Cougars in front by the third inning. The Cougars tallied 10 hits and six walks in a balanced offensive attack.
Pitching depth proved to be a crucial advantage once again. Bryce McCadden picked up his second win of the day, tossing four strong innings, and Justus Smith added a shutdown relief inning to preserve the win.
Williams led the charge at the plate with four hits across both games and several key RBIs, while Gatlin and Fleming drove in multiple runs during the championship series. The Cougars showed exceptional plate discipline, racking up 15 total walks across the two games.
“The underlying theme of this season was family,” said Coach Rossiter. “We started the season as a family, and we finished it as a family: strong, together, and united.”
