Henry County Schools has approved a furniture replacement project for EXCEL Academy and JB Henderson School. This continues work first started in summer 2023.

Developing a furniture and equipment replacement program was a strategic action within the school district’s 2021-2026 strategic plan.

EXCEL Academy and JB Henderson Furniture

The school district will be replacing the furniture this year at EXCEL Academy and JB Henderson School. The board of education approved the furniture purchases at their April 2025 and May 2025 meetings, respectively. Costs are as follows:

  • EXCEL Academy – $700,716.45
  • JB Henderson School – $282,456.37

The district will use capital accumulation funds to pay for the purchases. Capital accumulation funds are general fund reserves that were previously designated for specific capital items. In this case, the school district allocated funds for classroom equipment and furniture replacement.

New furniture install at EXCEL Academy will occur over the summer break. The school district expects to receive the new furniture for JB Henderson in time for the fall 2025 break. Furniture installation will take place during the fall break.

Other Furniture Replacement in Summer 2025

In addition to the above schools, Henry County Schools will be replacing the furniture at six other schools during the summer break 2025. Those six schools include the following:

  • Austin Road Elementary,
  • Cotton Indian Elementary,
  • Smith-Barnes Elementary,
  • Stockbridge Elementary,
  • Eagles Landing Middle, and
  • Stockbridge High.

The school district previously approved a furniture purchase for these schools in November 2024. The cost was $6.8 million. The district replaced the furniture at seven schools in summers 2023–2024.
