
Henry County has announced a ribbon cutting and town hall meeting to celebrate the grand opening at the new Mt Carmel Recreation Center. Both events will be on Monday, April 21.
The new recreation center is at North Mt. Carmel Park in the Dutchtown community. SPLOST V paid for the building’s construction.
Ribbon Cutting at Mt Carmel Recreation Center
Henry County commissioners will hold the ribbon cutting for the Mt Carmel Recreation Center on Monday, April 21, at 1 pm. The recreation center’s address is 307 North Mt. Carmel Road, Hampton, GA. Community members are welcome to attend.
A town hall meeting will follow later that evening. Commissioners Lewis and Robinson will host a joint town hall meeting. It will be on Monday, April 21, at 6:30 pm. The topic will be a legislative update following the recent Georgia General Assembly annual session.
Henry County Parks & Recreation manages recreation centers at JP Moseley Park, Fairview, Locust Grove and Hampton. Mt. Carmel Recreation Center is the county’s fifth recreation center. More information about each center is on the county parks website.
About the Recreation Center
The new 36,706 square foot venue offers the following:
- two full-size basketball courts,
- locker rooms,
- fitness area,
- concessions area,
- community meeting room,
- three multi-purpose rooms, and
- office space with a conference room and break room.

Cooper & Company of Cumming, GA was the project’s general contractor. Construction costs were $15.5 million dollars. The total project budget was $16.8 million. The county’s SPLOST V program paid for the project.
