Henry County Schools is now accepting construction bids for the Ola High School classroom addition. The project is the fourth classroom addition to proceed forward as part of education SPLOST VI.

Henry County voters approved education SPLOST VI in spring 2021. The five-year program has three new schools and six classroom additions. All projects will be complete by 2028.

Ola High School Addition Bids

The Ola High School classroom addition project will add ten classrooms onto the existing building. This includes eight regular classrooms and two science labs. The addition will be on the southeast corner of the building. That is the corner closest to the parking lot and North Ola Road.

The school district is accepting construction bids through March 27, 2025. The school board should then consider awarding a construction bid later this spring. Construction will last about two years, or until spring 2027. The new classrooms would then be ready for students beginning in August 2027.

Last summer, Henry County Schools awarded a contract for the Ola Middle School addition. That project is under construction now. It will add 14 classrooms onto the building. Work also includes a new secondary entrance from Wilson Drive for school buses. The middle school addition will be complete this fall.

E-SPLOST VI Capacity Projects

Ola High School is the fourth classroom addition project to move forward. Previously completed is the Dutchtown High School addition. Ola Middle and Dutchtown Middle are presently under construction. The other two projects will be additions at Locust Grove High School and Union Grove Middle School.

In addition, E-SPLOST VI has three new schools. Birch Creek Elementary in McDonough opened in August 2024. A new STEM high school has recently started construction in Stockbridge. It will open in August 2027. Lastly, the district will be building a new elementary school in Locust Grove.
